These images are from a project that began as a school assignment, and evolved into something more personal. While living outside of Joshua Tree National Park in California, I watched millions of park visitors from all over the world enjoy the vast, beautifully harsh landscape, hiking, camping, and rock climbing while the village enjoyed their tourist dollars. But just down the road, many locals lived in extreme poverty. I wanted to capture the sense of abandonment that many locals felt through images of a few of the many abandoned derelict structures throughout the Mojave desert.
